Cupcake Cuteness | Great Packaging

I'm busy preparing for our family Christmas doo and whilst trawling gourmet sites online, I came across such a cool company. Meri Meri has some wonderful cupcake packaging [other cool stuff as well - worth a bookmark]. These would be great gifts. The stockist in South Africa is apparently Neogroup. So pretty ;).

Get Green | Eco Friendly Hosting Coolness

This is so clever. If you are looking for a hosting company and are all about the environment, look no further than Get Green. They say it best when they say, they "offer carbon-neutral web hosting to individuals, businesses and organizations throughout South Africa. Their servers are powered and cooled with renewable wind and solar energy. This allows them to offer a web hosting solution to green-conscious people that are interested in eliminating their own carbon footprint." How is THAT FOR COOL!? As an added bonus, they are local, their service rocks and they are very helpful...so check them out.

The Power of Words | People Coolness

This is an advert for a content company BUT it is so relevant to everyday life. Choosing one's words carefully can really change things. Nice sharing for a Friday. Thanks to Cheryl for originally posting it.

Let your words grow | Environmental Coolness

Growing cards are a super cool idea. They have renewed my love of cards after years of considering them a waste of time. Growing paper offer cards that you can grow...yes I said grow. How great for the environment. So, you write all your lovely words on the card and the person at the receiving end can plant the card and watch your words grow! The type of seeds they use: Mixed flowers: Alyssum, Snapdragon - Indigenous flowers: Nemesia, Felicia - Herbs: Basil, Wild Rocket, Thyme. Cool hey!

You have to get some, they are reasonably priced and the designs are fantastic [their website has a list of stockists & designs]. See below for a few design options as well as proof that the cards are handmade - making them ever so much nicer.

The Design Academy of Fashion in Woodstock is having their annual fashion show on the 23 November 2011. For those fashion 'junkies' out there, this one should not be missed AND it's at the coolest venue, the Biscuit Mill.

I will do a follow up post, showcasing a few cool young designers.

Virtual Christmas Coolness

I am getting in early with this post...spreading Christmas cheer and all...:)

There are so many cool ways of communicating today and 'they' say that to get a good holistic experience one should use whatever is at your disposal. Well Christmas is my favourite time of the year, because its made up of so many of my favourite things...family, food and laughter :). I just love the message of giving around this time, it's magical. Well this post will give you a few extra special magical tools to use and make your Christmas awesome. I have used them for the last few years and I urge you to watch your kids faces when they are watching there message from Santa for the first time [you may shed a tear]. You don't have to be a techno..you just have to have access to the internet, a mail address and follow the prompts...here we go.

My all time favourite is the Portable North Pole. If you have images [or even if you don't] of friends, family or children you can create a video that Santa then sends to you with a video message to your little one [or others] that is so real its unbelievable. He speaks directly to them about what they need to do to get gifts this year. It's fantastic for keeping kids going till the end of the year, with this one, the more effort you put in the better the result. It is FREE as well, and at the end of the season you get the opportunity to buy your kids video clip for $5. I have brought them, great keepsake.

This video will explain a little better:

Then there is Norad Santa Tracker that uses Google maps to track Santa on Christmas eve. We keep this open on Christmas eve and check on him, they also have little 3D videos of each of his stops...very cool. Adding to the experience. I am sure there are many other cool things you can do online now, but I can vouch for these two personally. You have got to try them both...your kids will love it.

Look at the video below as an example of what you will see on Norad this was Santa in 2010: It's important to note that if you sign up at Portable North Pole, they will mail you when they are ready and obviously you can only track Santa on Christmas eve but Norad has great games etc for the kids to play as well.

Happy Holidays!

Anomali | Hand Crafted Jewellery Coolness

I have seen Anomali Hand Crafted Jewellery at two different markets in Cape Town. Their stuff is eye catching in a vintage-yet-retro sort of why. What is also very cool for a small business is that you can order online! Greatness. Go and check out their full range on their website - as usual I have given you a taster below.

Terbodore Coffee Roasters | Authentic Coolness

YAY! There is now a coffee roastery in Franschhoek. Terbodore is a small artisanal coffee roastery [that originated in KZN] and they are clearly passionate about coffee, which translates into a great cup! It is hard to describe something that is so linked to the senses on a blog, other than to say it's rustic [in a trendy way, not a camping one] and authentic - the coffee is the star of the show. So if you are in the area, stop at Goederust Farm on the main road into Franschhoek as the roastery is there. A few pics may help you get the overall picture, I am sorry that I could not provide the smell. BRING ON THE ARTISAN REVOLUTION!
