Wooden Sunglasses | Fashion Cool
Hout Couture say it best when they say "for each pair of wooden sunglasses sold, an indigenous or fruit tree will be planted through Eco-Schools projects in South Africa. See the world through our lenses and get back to your roots." These are not just any sunnies, they are environmentally friendly AND they give back to the community....an added bonus is they are super cool! Contact Hout Couture for more information.

Cupcakes and Cashmere | Blog Fabness
Cupcakes and Cashmere is my new favourite international fashion/style blog and BOY can Emily work every inch of it. She is excellent at adding fabulous things [makes me feel like I'm asleep!] to her blog, and she provides such great tips in her "How to" section. Her boyfriend takes most her pics and as far as personal blogs in the style genre go, I think she has got it right. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Pure Beginnings | Environmental Beauty
It's pretty common knowledge that the cosmetics industry in SA [and worldwide] is badly monitored, in terms of what goes into product. I recently came across a good product that is environmentally friendly and safe to use, especially safe for kids. Pure Beginnings is made in South Africa and is sold in health shops. I will be purchasing some for my kids to use [and trying some myself...but I am sure I am pickled in toxins already at my age!]. Their website has a great video to watch that explains what they are trying to do.

Sam Cross Art | Recycling Coolness
Sam Cross is a South African [Durban] artist that does some pretty fab art. The coolest part is she is a recycler who uses iconic South African brands to create her beauties. Her work is simple yet effective. Very clever. To contact Sam or view more of her work click here.

iPod Art | Incredible
Would you believe me if I told you this image below was created on an iPod touch? Well believe it! Japanese artist Seikou Yamaoka creates complex and beautiful digital paintings on his iPod Touch during his commute to work! He tries to make the images appear like watercolours... absolutely incredible! If you have an iPhone or iPod touch you can make attempts to do the same using the app Art Studio the iTunes store has a more advanced one for $2.99 or a lite version that is free. Art no longer needs to cost you a fortune! Just look at the images below and the cool time lapse video of how Yamaoka goes about doing the artwork.
Below is a shortened video done by the Telegraph but there is an in depth longer version that can be found here.

Face Cloning | Tech
Face projection...a thing of the future..forget makeup - this is 3D makeup! The artist responsible is Arturo Castro [and he is clearly clever]! He made this strange video [see below] that he calls realtime face substitution and says “I imagine you could grab a face from another camera, and hence steal someone else’s face in real time”. Part of me is slightly repelled by the idea [not a cloning fan at all] BUT you cannot deny the coolness! Watch the video!

Source : The Next WebCupcake Couture | Pretty Cool
Nadia van der Mescht is a clever girl. Her eye for beautiful things is amazing really. Her blog lovecupcakecouture is packed with the most sumptuous colours, bits 'n bobs BUT that's not all she can do! Her accessories and corsages [great idea for weddings] are making their way around the country faster than you can blink.....She can do pretty like no other! Her site is an inspiration, I always feel uplifted after a visit to it. Once again, examples of Nadia's handy work below, but there is so much pretty, I simply could not include it all..go check it out.

Art of Illusion | Paris
Artist François Abelanet has created this 3D artwork of illusion in Paris. Otherwise known as an anamorphosis, which is a distorted picture that finds its original aspect ratio and makes sense when viewed from one angle. Check it out.

South African Music | Zahara
What an incredible story Bulelwa Mkutukana aka Zahara has. At 23 she is new on the afro pop scene and 13 days after her debut album was released it went platinum. This Eastern Cape lass is clearly destined for big things.... watch her video below.

Lauren Fowler | Artistic Cool
Lauren describes herself as a graphic designer, illustrator and thing maker. All those descriptions simply do not capture this women's artistic brilliance. She is a fantastically quirky person and one of my absolute favourite South African illustrators and thingie makers ;). I am unashamedly a fan. For more information about her and to see more of her work, get hold of her here.
And lets not forget the things... breaking stereotypes regarding stitching and knitting!
